Hello and welcome!  I am Jan Miller, Chair of the Department of Mathematics at BMCC. I have been teaching at BMCC since 2006.  I enjoy math, especially algebra. I am very proud of our mathematics department.  We work very hard to encourage success in learning.  The math teachers at BMCC understand that math is difficult and even frightening for some people.  We do our best to make the learning experience a positive one.  The full time and adjunct faculty all work with the Learning Center staff, the TRIO staff and the students to achieve success.  Our goal is for math to be possible, maybe even enjoyable, for all students.

Some of the math classes this semester took on the challenge of writing a story incorporating mathematics and Native American culture. I had one session with my classes where we brainstormed a general idea, main characters, and setting.  I then stepped back and let them pass it from person to person.  Each student wrote a paragraph and then passed the story on to the next person.

Please note that the stories are fiction.
