Meeting the Performance Standards in the Head Start Home-Based Program Option
![]()
This session will provide participants an opportunity to identify strategies for meeting the component objectives of the Head Start Program Performance Standards. The videotape depicts ways in which many of these objectives can be met. Refer to the Head Start Program Performance Standards and the worksheet entitled, "How to Meet the Performance Standards in the Head Start Home-Based Program Option" (page 29).
Introduction to the Video-Tape
Review the components of the Head Start Program Performance Standards with the participants: education; health (which includes dental and mental health and nutrition); social services; and parent involvement. Ask the participants to identify some of the objectives for which they have primary responsibility and some for which other program staff are responsible. Record the responses on a flip chart page.
Distribute the worksheet entitled, "How to Meet the Performance Standards in the Head Start Home-Based Program Option."
For this presentation, the Performance Standards have been paraphrased to reflect the Head Start home-based program option. In addition, only those Standards that might be identified in the videotape are included.Follow-Up
After viewing the videotape, ask the participants to complete the worksheet. Lead a discussion on the participants' responses. Also, discuss additional activities that can be used to meet Standards that they did not see depicted in the videotape.
