Every Child is Learning!
by Michele Plutro, Education Specialist, Head Start Bureau, and David Fleishman, NCLA
The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLA) is presenting an innovative new training program called Every Child Is Learning. Developed in partnership with the Head Start Bureau, Every Child Is Learning is designed to enhance the skills of teachers and parents to recognize early warning signs and to identify, understand, and plan activities to address behaviors that place preschool children at risk for later learning disabilities.
Every Child is Learning providers a captivating looks into early childhood development. The video shows three- to five-year-old children interacting in preschool classrooms and Head Start settings. Parents and teachers in a variety of community settings are encouraged to discuss the real issue that are highlighted, focusing on early childhood development.
The total program takes about five hours to complete. The video is divided into four segments:
(1) Kids Communicating;
(2) Teachers Teaching;
(3) Development; and
(4) A Closer Look.
A discussion manual accompanies the video, and together they create a dynamic and interactive approach to training.
Every Child Is Learning is available to Head Start programs at the reduced price of $59 per kit. To order your kit, call the national Center for Learning Disabilities at 212/545-7510.
