Columbiana County Head Start Family Child Care

The Columbiana County Head Start Program in Lisbon, OH, has expanded choices and services to Head Start famliies through the establishment of five famliy child care homes. These family child care homes provide both Head Start services and child care to children of parents who work, are in vocational training, or enrolled in school. The homes provide real life experiences, such as helping to prepare meals and learning good health habits. They also provide numerous oppotuniities for the children to develop social skills. A strong educational founddation is provided for the children.
The importance of this option is the choice it gives to parents. Parents are empowered to select the option that suits their schedules and meets their child's needs. Many parents have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return to school or enter the work force becuase of the availablity of a full-day program. Services for children with special needs are also provided in the family child care homes.
Columbiana County Head Start has received special recognition for creativity in providing unique options for famlies in the community.
