MAYAGUEZ, PUERTO RICO'S HEAD START program held a 30th Anniversary Celebration of Head Start. The celebration included a week-long health fair for the community's early childhood population.

The health fair provided screenings in health, speech and language, socioemotional development, and motor skills. Children received laboratory tests, physical screenings, dental examinations, immunization reviews, and orientations in health education. Community participation and collaboration made the provision of these services possible.

During the week an exhibit of arts and crafts of Head Start children was presented. The exhibit served to encourage participation of families in the Head Start program. There was also a model of a Head Start center. People from different places on the island visited the model center and had the opportunity to observe teachers and children taking part in routine activities of a Head Start classroom.
