Students will need to purchase the textbook for this course by using the BMCC online bookstore. All of the lessons refer to sections in the textbook making it essential to this course. It contains all the assignments, a tutorial Cd provides additional help in many areas of the textbook, and comes with the e-instructor at Smarthinking (an online tutorial service, where you can either e-mail your questions and wait for answers, or you can actually connect live with an e-instructor who will walk you through your problems). The Smarthinking service is accessible at no additional cost for one year from the date of purchase of the textbook, so it is essential if you are taking both courses that you complete them within the one-year period.

Applications

One way to motivate an interest in mathematics is through applications. Whenever appropriate, the last objective of a section presents applications that require the student to use problem-solving strategies, along with the skills covered in that section, to solve practical problems. This approach generates student awareness of the value of Mathematics as a real-life tool.
