Student's Opportunity to Ask Questions

If after first reading and studying the examples you still experience difficulty in understanding any part of the lesson, contact the instructor by e-mail. If possible, the question will be answered by e-mail. If necessary, a chat session will be scheduled. Please do not hesitate to ask questions. It is the goal of the instructor to have all students succeed in mastering the material. It is important that you understand this lesson before moving to the next—for mathematics requires a working understanding of many different concepts. If the student fails to gain this understanding, this weak skill area may adversely impact performance in later studies or employment.

A second option is to use the tutorial service offered through Smarthinking.

Lesson Assignment

After reading all of chapter 1, you should attempt questions at random from each section. Check your answers in A1 at the back of the book. Any sections that give you difficulty should be reviewed.

Assignment for Submission

After you have completed the lesson, you are asked to submit some questions to help the instructor monitor your progress. This ten mark assignment is all multiple choice and must be completed before going on to lesson R.2. The marks from this assignment will be added to the marks from the other lessons and will count as 50 marks towards your final BMCC grade. The instructor will review the assignment results and provide feedback on your performance. Remember that using a calculator or any other aid may weaken your understanding of the concept. After all the intent of this course is to provide you the basic tools to tackle more complex problems. Your mastery of these skills is the ultimate goal of this course!

To complete the assignment, go to Lesson R.1 Assignment

Chapter Tests

There is no chapter test for the review section.
