Course Description:
This course is a companion course to EC214 Strategic Planning and Proposal Writing in Early Childhood Education. In the new Head Start Federal Model, grantees should develop a strategic plan, write a proposal based upon the elements of the strategic plan, and then collect data that relates to project goals and objectives as the project operates. At the end of the project period, an evaluation is completed which provides quantitative and qualitative data that is used to revise the strategic plan. The cycle of planning, monitoring, report writing, self-assessment, record-keeping, and communication (continuous improvement and evaluation) then continues. This course introduces the basic concepts and methods of assessment, continuous improvement, and evaluation. Practice in basic statistical analysis and evaluation design is included.

Homework Guidelines: Do homework assignments in order. There is a natural order to the assignments that directly correlates with Head Start Performance Standards. If you skip an assignment or do later assignments before earlier ones, you may be missing some important information.

Project Requirements: Make a project binder that includes correctly labeled sections to hold all of your homework assignments, resource materials, midterm exam, and final exam. This is due by the end of the 15th week. It will be worth 40 points. Your binder should be neat and clean. Send me your project binder for my review by the end of the 15th week. See: Project Evaluation and Grade Form.

Midterm Guidelines: You must complete Homework Assignments 1-5 before you can take the Midterm.

Final Guidelines: You must complete Homework Assignments 6-10 before you can take the Final.

Grade: Your grade will be based on scores from the Homework Assignments, Project Binder, Midterm, and Final. See Class Grade Worksheet.
