Hi! My name is Sandi King. I am a nurse, wife, mother, and grandmother. I obtained my BSN from Lake Superior State University in Michigan and am pursuing my Masters Degree in Health Care Administration through the University of Phoenix Distance Program. I grew up in Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula, at a resort on Lake Huron. I am married to a wonderful man I have been with for 16 years. We live in the Upper Peninsula on 40 acres of farmland. We have one son who is 25 years old, lives in Miami Beach, Florida, works for an electronics company and, along with his wonderful girlfriend, blessed me with a sweet and beautiful granddaughter, Liviana Desiree, in February, 2007. We are quite proud of him and his accomplishments.

We have two very cute and cuddly dogs and one cat (he’s photo shy ).
My professional interest has always been in the public/community healthcare field and my professional goal has been to be part of an organization that wants to excel in both provision of healthcare services and client satisfaction.

After graduating from nursing school, I was fortunate enough to have worked for 5 years for a tribal organization as their Maternal/Child Health Program Manager for their Healthy Start Project. This project’s focus is to reduce infant/maternal mortality in the Native American population and I worked in close collaboration with their Early Head Start / Head Start and Early-On programs.

I currently work as a Psychiatric nurse for a large out-patient mental health center. This is my second time working for this agency. My position includes working with developmentally disabled clients who live in local area group homes, working with the OBRA program to offer services to the geriatric population, especially those in nursing care facilities, who have varying degrees of mental illness and working with clients who are placed in our Crisis Stabilization Unit. This unit helps those who are having an immediate mental health crisis but who do not require a psychiatric hospitalization. During my previous employment with this agency, I worked as their ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) psychiatric nurse serving the most acute and chronic mentally ill population. In between, I worked briefly for the Michigan Department of Corrections as a nurse but decided that type of nursing was not for me

In addition to licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Lactation Consultant, I have about 26 years of experience in a variety of healthcare organizations, as well as non-health care settings, where I have been part of teams in which the provision of services and client satisfaction were of the utmost importance. One of my most significant and challenging professional accomplishments was the implementation, operation, and maintenance of an in-office hematology laboratory within a Pediatric Neurology clinic based in a Children’s Hospital.
