Course Credits: 4 Course Description: Introduction to management information systems, systems design and development, data communications, data management, office automation, computer hardware and software concepts, and using information technology to compete in the business world. Software applications such as word processing (Word), financial spreadsheets (Excel), and graphics presentation (PowerPoint) are introduced. Prerequisite: AE119 or appropriate placement scores. Course Objectives:
Demonstrate understanding of the basics of Information Technology and identify the components of a computer. Demonstrate understanding of the differences between hardware and software. During the semester, three software applications will be introduced and you will acquire the skills to use them to a certain degree. Demonstrate the skills of mapping drives and printers. Grading Policy: All assignments are to be completed by the student. Grades will be posted using part of your student number as identification. Grades will be established using an average of the assignments shown on the student grades page. There is no final exam. Grading and Evaluation

Plagiarism and Cheating: The instructor reserves the right to fail any student for cheating on any assignment or plagiarizing (copying) the work of others. The BMCC Administrative board may discipline students who cheat or plagiarize. Assignments: The assignments relate to the lab portion of the class and will be required for each of the software packages presented. You are strongly advised to have your assignments verified for correctness before turning them in for credit. The appropriate assignments for each segment will be due weekly. The assignments for each week are equal in value. Your final grade will be an average of the work from the fifteen weeks.
