Description of Course:
This course is designed for a beginning student having little or no microcomputer experience. Basic computer concepts, basics of Internet use, asynchronous learning environment (ALE), word processing and electronic spreadsheets are covered.Text:
No text is required for this course. The material is online.Hardware and Software required:Since this is a course offered over the Internet, students must have available a 486 or more powerful computer, at least 8 megabytes of RAM, a VGA or better monitor with 256 color capability and a 28.8 or better modem. Our web pages are designed for a 28.8 modem, so if a slower modem is used, you may experience some long waits during downloading. Better computers and faster modems are desirable, however. The student will need Internet access and a browser such as Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer-- the browser must be Java-capable and have Java enabled.All students please review the following policies and procedures

Plagiarism and Cheating:The instructor reserves the right to fail any student for cheating on any assignment or plagiarizing the work of others. The BMCC Administrative board may discipline students who cheat or plagiarize.Grading Policy:
All assignments are to be completed by the student. Grades will be posted using part of your student number as identification. Grades will be established using an average of the 22 assignments shown on the student grades page. There is no final exam.
Grading and Evaluation
A = 94 - 100% C = 74 - 76% A- = 90 - 93% C- = 70 - 73% B+ = 87 - 89% D+ = 67 - 69% B = 84 - 86% D = 64 - 66% B- = 80 - 83% D- = 60 - 63% C+ = 77 - 79% F = 00 - 59%
Grammar Requirement:
Work submitted must use correct rules of grammar.Course Objectives:
Students should be able to use the Internet as a tool to complete individual projects. Students should be able to create, save, edit and print professional looking files using word processing and spreadsheet skills.
At the end of the course the student will have demonstrated:
- A rudimentary understanding of the history of the Internet.
- Effective use of common software to prepare course assignments.
- Effective use of programs and tools on the Internet.
- The ability to communicate over the Internet by multiple methods.
- The ability to perform research on the Internet.
- The ability to create and post simple world wide web pages.
