Course Description:
Introduction to Business is designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of today's business environment. Topics covered include the Global Economy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Organizational Structure, Human Resources Management and Marketing Processes.

Course Format:
- This course consists of 15 Modules and is divided into 4 Sections.
- Each Module has a stated objective, a reading assignment and review questions, and an interactive discussion assignment.
- After completing the assignments in one Module, the student may proceed to the next Module.
- When all assignments for a section are completed, the student must complete a Section Test.
- The instructor will return the graded Section Tests by E-mail.
- In addition to the 4 Section Tests, each student will be required to complete a Comprehensive Term Paper.
- Students must use proper English at all times including answers to review questions at end of chapters.
Use of complete sentences, correct spelling, punctuation and grammar is required to receive full marks.

- Describe different types of global economic systems and show how demand and supply affect resource distribution in the United States.
- Understand the global context of business.
- Distinguish social responsibility from ethics and show how the concept of social responsibility applies both to environmental issues and to a firm's relationship with customers, employees, and investors.
- Identify the major forms of business ownership.
- Describe the four activities that constitute the management process.
- Explain the elements that influence a firm's organizational structure.
- Identify the characteristics that distinguish service operations from goods production.
- Describe the decision areas involved in operations planning and identify some of the key tools for total quality management.
- Describe different managerial styles of leadership.
- Describe human resource management and explain how managers plan for human resources.
- Identify a product and trace the stages of the product life cycle.
- Describe the key factors that influence the consumer buying process.
- Identify the important objectives of promotion and describe the key advertising media available to marketing managers.
- Identify the different channels of distribution.
Review Question Assignments will be worth a total of 100 marks. 10 Review Question Assignments will be worth 9 marks each. Module 13 Review Question Assignment will be worth 10 marks. 100 Each of the 15 Interactive Discussion Assignments will be worth 10 marks.
Participation in the interactive discussion assignments must be significant and meaningful. Every student will be required to submit his/her own answer to the interactive discussion question as well as an in-depth response to at least two classmates. Both the answer and the response should include the reasoning behind the student's point of view. Of the 10 marks available for each interactive discussion assignment, a maximum of four marks will be allowed for each response posted to the bulletin board. To receive the full ten marks, students need to submit at least three in-depth comments to each interactive discussion.150 Each of the 4 Section Tests will be worth 25 marks. 100 The Comprehensive Term Paper will be worth 50 marks. 50 Total mark will be divided by 4 for final grade. 400/4=100
